Paper - cartoon consumption amount in
Turkey is 2.846.000 tones for 2003, this amount has increased
by 14% when compared with the consumption in 2002. During
same period paper – cartoon exports rose by 369.000 tones and
reached 1.400.000 tones by the end of 2003.
When we investigate the amount of recovered
paper in Turkey, figures are as follows;

In other words, except the crises year 2001, recovered paper
consumption is generally rising.
Collection rate of recovered paper was 1.036.000 tones in 2002;
however it increased by 190.000 tones and became 1.226.000 tones
in 2003. This reflects a 43% returning rate. In the same period
imports fell by 123.000 tones and became 63.000 tones in 2003.
Recovered paper is a very valuable raw material for our country,
it is necessary that the collection rates should increase at
least up to 50%. If it is thought that a part of paper
-cartoon's cauldron back is impossible, it must be assented that
2/3 the returning rate (%65) is the highest yield. Generally
%50-60 rates are respected as quite good evaluation. If it is
necessary to give a sample in European Union countries returning
rates are as follows; Germany %72, Austria 69%, Holland 64%,
Switzerland 63% and Sweden 55%. Although rate of collection is
very important and quality of the collected paper is also very
important.
When considered
according to years return rates are increasing every year.
Statistics for the last four years are as follows;
